Picture Alvar Gossert

Alvar Gossert has been in charge of the biomolecular NMR spectroscopy platform since 2017. At the platform we maintain a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, engange in scientific collaborations and teach coursers in biophysics and NMR. We also conduct our own research program focussing on drug discovery, in particular on GPCR signalling. We develop strategies for producing these difficult proteins in eukaryotic cell culture and develop NMR methods for studying their interactions at atomic resolution.

Curriculum Vitae

Alvar Gossert studied biochemistry at ETH Zürich, where he earned his PhD in 2006 under supervision of Prof. Kurt Wüthrich. He then moved to industry for a Postdoc in the structural biophysics group at Novartis Pharma AG in Basel. After nearly 10 years in drug discovery research, where he took different roles as laboratory head in protein production and NMR spectroscopy, he moved back to ETH Zürich where he became the head of the NMR platform of the department of biology.
